Swipes are how you discover new people on Yubo. When someone’s profile catches your eye, you can swipe right to connect or swipe left to keep exploring. If you both swipe right, it’s a match — and you can start chatting instantly. While people definitely use Yubo for dating, we do want to make clear we’re about much more than that. That’s why we let you put Tags on your profile to show other users the things you’re into — and even find other users into the same stuff. On Yubo, you’ll also be introduced to people of all types and genders so you can connect over the things you do, where you live, hobbies, or other shared interests.

Join a Live to Hang Out in Real Time

Lives are livestream video rooms where you can talk, play games, or get a group together to just be together in your own digital space. And if venturing into a random room with strangers sounds intimidating, don’t worry! You can always join a Live as a watcher (with your mic and camera off) to get a sense of the energy in the room first — believe us, nobody will judge you. And then, when you’re feeling it, you can raise your hand to join as a full participant. Some Lives are big and lively, while others are small and personal. Either way, they’re all about enjoying a face-to-face conversation and sharing an authentic experience.

Chat and Reactions: Keep It Real

Verified Identities

Our industry-leading age-estimation system is core to the Yubo experience. Every person on Yubo verifies their age by taking a live selfie video in the app. Our technology instantly estimates their age from that image and checks it against the birthdate they entered. If the results don’t match or aren’t clear, we ask them to confirm with a valid ID, which our safety specialists review manually before approving the account. It’s simple, fast, and doesn’t create a permanent record of your face as we delete the image once verification’s done. Basically, it’s just enough tech to keep things trustworthy without feeling too intrusive or sketchy.

Smart Technology + Human Moderation

We use a mix of advanced tools and real human moderation to detect harmful content or behavior in real time — especially during Lives and chats. Our systems automatically detect and flag anything that violates our Community Guidelines, from a photo to a typed phrase. Every report is then reviewed by a trained specialist, who reviews and responds to it — often in minutes. We also make sure that none of our protections spoil the fun or adventure that Yubo has to offer. In fact, our tools are designed to work quietly and unobtrusively in the background according to a principle of “Safe Passage” – meaning we let our users chart their own path on our app and only step in if something crosses the line.

Tools for Control

At Yubo, we give you multiple tools to make sure you’re always in charge of your experience. You can block or report anyone, manage your privacy settings, and customize who can find or message you. SAFE Mode is automatically turned on for everyone, filtering out inappropriate content in chats and comments (and can be switched off anytime). The app also sends gentle pop-up alerts if you’re about to share personal details like your phone number or address — just to help you think twice. And with our Muted Words feature, you can block specific words, abbreviations, or emojis you’d rather not see.

Prioritized Privacy

As you make your way through all the fun Yubo has to offer, we also want you to be able to control your privacy along the way. We use smart safety tools like pop-up alerts that remind you before sharing personal info, a handy “Hide My City” setting to keep your location private, and easy reporting and blocking features so you’re always in control. Because we’re based in France, we follow strict General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) privacy laws that ensure your data is deleted after a set time. But remember: Screenshots are forever, so share thoughtfully.

Reporting Problematic Content or Behavior

If you ever see something on Yubo that breaks our Community Guidelines, makes you uncomfortable, or just doesn’t feel right, please report it — even if you’re not sure it’s a big deal. Just tap Report in the top right corner of the app and choose the option that best fits what’s happening. To help our Safety Specialists review your report quickly and accurately, you can attach up to four screenshots or recordings to give extra context.

We partner with leading organizations like the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and other global safety groups to keep our platform up to the highest standards. And when a situation calls for it, we contact and work with law enforcement to make sure users always have backup when it matters. 1. Download the App

Yubo is free to download on both on both iOS and Android. Just search for “Yubo” in your app store. Hint: We’re the yellow one.

2. Create Your Profile

You’ll set up your Yubo account with your real name, age, photo, and phone number. Every user verifies their age through a quick, in-app process that ensures they are who they say they are so that all our users feel safe in knowing they’re talking to an actual human, and not some AI-generated attention trap.

3. Add a Bio and Tags

Your bio and tags make it easy for others to see what you’re about: the music you’re into, the movies you love, and the hobbies you’re able to jam into the ever-dwindling free time that modern adulthood affords you.

4. Start Exploring

Once your profile’s all tagged and bio’d, you can start swiping to meet people you’re interested in. It could be someone with purely digital appeal, a fun-seeker from close by you wouldn’t mind getting a drink with IRL, or a fan club member of your favorite international football team from that actual city. And not all of this exploring happens with Swipes, mind you. In November 2025, we announced a shift to being an app exclusively for people aged 18 or over. It’s a change that reflects where our audience is now and that helps us keep building a safe, open, and genuinely social space made for young adults. Below is some of our thinking on the matter and how we think it will help make Yubo better than ever.

Why We Went Adult-Only

There’s a very simple reason we decided to be an 18+ app: The vast majority of our audience is over 18 and told us pretty overwhelmingly that they wanted us to make the change. In fact, 92% of users in a 2024 survey said they wanted Yubo to be just for adults. Also, going fully 18+ lets us design every feature, safety measure, and experience specifically for young adults — the way the app is actually used today. In that way, it was a simple business decision – but it still wasn’t an easy one.

Our History with Younger Users

When we launched nearly a decade ago, Yubo was one of the few places where younger teens could safely connect, explore, and be social online. Accepting younger users made sense back then — especially during the social isolation of the Covid-19 pandemic. But over the years, those same users have grown up with us. And today, the world has opened up to give the next generation of teens plenty of ways to connect and express themselves. So we made a decision to grow up too, while focusing on making Yubo the go-to place for connection and fun for people navigating early adulthood — with all its opportunities, challenges and change.

Our Grown-Up Future

We may be grown up, but we definitely plan on keeping the same bright (and very yellow) spirit that’s always made Yubo unique. With that youthful vibe in mind, we’ll be introducing a fresh look, new features, and even more ways to hang out for our users to navigate this increasingly complex thing called young adulthood.
