Privacy Policy
Introduction
Last update: 27 June, 2025
Check out this page for a summary of our Privacy Policy: Your Privacy at a Glance.
Yubo is a social discovery app designed to help people connect and make new friends through live streaming and real-time interactions. The platform fosters authentic communication in a safe and inclusive environment.
In this Privacy Policy, you'll find all the information you need on how we process personal data when you use our services or interact with us. Please read it carefully, and remember that it applies every time you use Yubo.
We have made the policy as clear and accessible as possible, but if you have any questions about it or about how your data is being used, please contact our team at [email protected].
Notice at Collection of Personal Information: We collect the personal information listed below under “Data We Collect” for the purposes described below under “How We Use Your Data”. We keep personal information as long as reasonably necessary or relevant for the practices described in the U.S. Privacy Notice, or as otherwise required by law..
This document applies to all our products and services, including our website and the Yubo app, operated by Twelve-App SAS (“Twelve-App”, “we”, “us”, “our”).
By “personal information” or “personal data”, we mean any piece of information that identifies you directly (for example: your photo, your name, your email address) or indirectly (for example: your user id, your location, the technical information related to your device).
When you use the Yubo App (“Yubo”) or visit our website, we collect information about you.
1. OUR COMMITMENT TO PRIVACY AND SAFETY
At Yubo, we are committed to protecting your privacy and providing a safe environment. From the start, our features have been developed with privacy and safety in mind, following a "privacy and safety by design" approach.
We take your safety seriously. Our teams work continuously to ensure that Yubo remains a space where interactions are authentic and respectful. We use a range of tools and measures to detect and address potentially illegal or offensive behavior.
2. WHO WE ARE
Yubo is published by Twelve-App, a French company based in Paris. We created Yubo to help you meet new people and connect through live video and other interactive features. We also operate the website www.yubo.live.
For the purposes of data protection laws, Twelve-App is the data controller of your personal data, as described in this Privacy Policy.
Our registered office is located at 59 rue de Ponthieu, bureau 562, 75008 Paris, France.
3. DATA WE COLLECT
3.1. Data you provide to us directly
Sign-up data. To use Yubo, you need to create an account. To do so, we ask you to provide basic personal information such as your name, username, and date of birth. We also require you to upload at least one profile picture showing your face, and to take a selfie to estimate your age from your facial features.
We may offer a simplified sign-up process using Apple ID log-in or Google log-in. In this case, we will receive personal data from Apple or Google, such as your name, Google or Apple ID and your email address (you may choose not to provide some data depending on Google or Apple policies). Such data will only be used to set up your Yubo account.
You may also complete your profile with optional information: phone number, gender, emoji, bio, and email address. Users who are at least 18 years old can also provide information on their profession and education.
Private details, such as your email address, birthdate, phone number, gender, and the selfie photo used for age estimation, are not publicly visible.
Your interaction(s) with us. If you report a user or content on Yubo, request help, make a claim, participate in a survey, or exercise your privacy rights (as mentioned in Section 9 below), we will process the information contained therein. We will also process information if another user reports you. This kind of information is neither shared nor visible to other users.
Profile verification. On Yubo, you can verify your profile to get a yellow checkmark. This lets others know that your profile is real. In some cases, such as when there is a serious safety concern, verification may be required.
The goal is to make sure you are the person shown in your profile photos. You can verify your profile either automatically using our technology, or manually with help from a specialist. If you choose the automatic option and give your consent, we will collect your facial geometry data, which may be considered biometric data in some countries.
Usually, a selfie is enough to get verified. However, if verification is required due to a serious suspicion, we will also ask for a valid ID.
Your precise location (GPS coordinates). Subject to your consent, we collect and process GPS data concerning your location. This allows you, depending on your settings, to display the city where you are located in your profile and to add people around you as friends. Restrictions may apply depending on your age, country and applicable laws.
Your approximate location (IP Address). If geolocation based on GPS data is not activated or is not available to you as explained above, we collect your approximate location - such as your city - derived from your IP address to deliver a better experience.
The contents you share on Yubo. When you use features available on Yubo we will process and store the contents you share such as photos, videostream and messages. We also need to process the technical data associated with the content you post (such as the date, device information, IP address).
You should always be aware that the content you share on Yubo may be viewed by other users with whom you are interacting, who may save your content through their device (for example, by taking a screenshot of their phone).
When using Yubo, we do not encourage you to share sensitive information such as data revealing your racial or ethnic origin, your political opinions, religious beliefs, or data concerning your health, your sex life, or your sexual orientation. It is, however, your freedom of expression to do so as long as you respect the rules in force on the platform. In this case, you should be aware that you are manifestly making this information public.
Access to your camera, photos and videos. In order to send and upload your photos or videos from your device and use the live video feature, we need your permission to access your media and your camera.
3.2. Data we collect automatically when you use our services
Information on user acquisition. We collect technical information such as your advertising IDs (which are randomly generated numbers that you can reset in your device’s settings) to help us measure the performance of our marketing campaigns and attribution.
Information about your activity on Yubo. Your use of our services leads to the collection of the following data:
- the Yubo id associated with your account,
- the date you signed up,
- the date you last logged in,
- your country of residence,
- your settings on Yubo, such as notification preferences or live settings,
- your interactions with the Yubo features and other users.
Information about your purchases on Yubo. If you purchase paid items available on Yubo, we will keep your purchase and subscription history; however, we do not process your payment details. This information is collected and processed by your app store (App Store, Google Play Store).
Data concerning devices and hardware: We collect the following information relating to the device(s) and hardware you use to access our services:
- your IP address,
- your device brand and model,
- the advertising IDs e.g., Google’s AAID and Apple’s IDFA, both of which are randomly generated numbers that you can reset via your device settings,
- app bugs and crashes,
- version and language,
- your device’s operating system.
The collection of this type of data may involve the use of cookies or other tracking devices. For more information, read our Cookie Policy.
3.3. Data we receive from third parties
Other users. We may receive information from other users, especially in user-generated content, support requests and user reports.
Business partners. We may receive information from our business partners, which may include app stores or operating system providers, analytics providers, or other publishers and social media platforms.
Law enforcement and NGOs. We may receive information from non-governmental or law enforcement organizations for safety purposes, investigations or legal proceedings.
4. HOW WE USE YOUR DATA
We mostly need to access, use and/or share your personal data to provide you with the services offered on Yubo and to create a safe, smooth, and high-quality experience for you. To give you more details and examples, you can read below the list of purposes for which your data may be used.
4.1. To manage your account and your relationship with Yubo, and to use the app features
- Create and manage your user account (including access to Yubo services and Help). Depending on your jurisdiction, we may request parental permission before you can use Yubo.
- Allow you to enjoy the services and features available on Yubo and that you request, such as adding friends, sending messages, or participating in lives.
- Manage and store profile information and user-generated content in our systems.
- Understand the technical issues users may encounter and resolve them.
- Manage and respond to your requests, questions, and complaints addressed to our support team.
We rely on our Terms of Use as a legal basis for processing your personal data under this Section 4.1. Remember that these terms constitute a contract between you and Twelve-App.
4.2. To improve our services and understand our community
- Gain insight into how users interact with the app and its features, in order to understand their expectations and needs, and to inform the design and evolution of our services accordingly.
- Carry out research and analysis about the app usage (for example, by conducting surveys).
- Evaluate and improve the quality of our support services by analyzing how we handle requests, understanding the nature of questions, and conducting quality assurance checks on our responses.
- Suggest user profiles based on specific criteria such as location, gender, profile information, settings, and activity on the app (for example, how often your profile is added by others).
- Suggest special offers based on certain criteria such as country, gender, and activity on the app (for example, periods of inactivity or recent purchases);
- Create and develop new features on Yubo, use new technologies, and perform tests before launching them.
We rely on Twelve-App’s legitimate interests as a legal basis for processing your personal data under this Section 4.2. so that we understand your expectations and improve your experience on Yubo.
4.3. To access certain information from you or your device
- We use your precise location to show you live videos and suggest potential friends who are nearby. This helps you connect with people in your area while using the app.
- Access to your device's photo album, camera, and microphone to share images, videos and sound on Yubo.
- Send you push notifications containing information about our products, safety updates, and interactions with other users.
- Use cookies or SDKs in our app as detailed in our Cookie Policy. This is mainly to understand the app usage and conversion.
- Perform automated profile verification by checking whether your selfie matches your selected profile photos.
We rely on your consent as a legal basis for processing your personal data under this Section 4.3 where consent is the legal basis required under applicable laws.
You may withdraw your consent whenever you want or opt out of the processing of your data, (depending on applicable laws). Your consent or right to opt out is usually managed via the settings of Yubo and/or your device.
When consent is not the applicable legal basis, we rely on our legitimate interest in ensuring the security of the platform and improving the user experience.
4.4. To ensure and enhance online safety on Yubo
- We process your facial features and profile photos to verify your account and ensure that you are the person shown in your profile pictures. Profile verification may be optional or required, depending on the context and safety risk detected. It can be done automatically using our technology or manually, depending on your preference. If we detect a potential safety risk, we may also ask you to provide a valid ID.
- We may process your profile information, content you share, and your activity on the platform to detect, assess, and address potential safety risks, moderate content, and enforce our Community Guidelines. This includes analyzing images, videos, comments, messages, and interactions (including metadata) to identify illegal or inappropriate behavior. In certain cases, we may process publicly available information or activity reported to us from third-party platforms, when relevant to user safety on Yubo.
- We develop and use automated technologies to proactively analyze content shared on Yubo — including text, images, videos, profile information and metadata — to detect potential breaches of our Community Guidelines or content that may be manifestly unlawful. These technologies scan content to identify indicators of suspicious activity. Such technologies are also used to detect potentially inauthentic or fraudulent profiles and to help ensure that users meet our age requirements.
- We use a facial age estimation technology provided by our partner Yoti, which algorithmically estimates a user's age based on their facial features and checks if the estimation is consistent with their birthdate. Yoti does not retain the image or any facial geometry data; only the age result is shared with us. We retain your selfie for as long as your account is active, for safety and profile authenticity purposes.
- We assess the effectiveness of our safety procedures, policies, and technologies to improve them and develop new ones. This includes reviewing the quality of moderation and support actions, as well as training our automated tools to enhance their accuracy over time.
- We retain moderation history for a certain time and may flag user accounts that have been reported or are suspected of engaging in unsafe or unlawful behavior. This allows our teams to identify repeated issues over time and make more informed decisions when assessing potential safety risks or applying moderation measures.
We rely on Twelve-App’s legitimate interests as a legal basis for processing your personal data under this Section 4.4. so that Yubo remains a safe and respectful place of expression and safeguards the trust of our users.
We also rely on our Terms of Use to enforce them in the event of a violation of our Terms of Service and/or our Community Guidelines.
In jurisdictions where analysis of a photo for age estimation or profile verification purposes is considered biometric data, we request your consent to process this information.
4.5. To comply with our legal obligations and to cooperate with authorities.
- Yubo includes in-app features that allow you to report users or content you believe may violate our Community Guidelines. When you submit a report, we process the information you provide — including the reported account, the content concerned, and any attachments you include — in order to assess the situation and determine whether moderation action is needed.
- We process personal data to comply with our legal obligations in the fight against online criminal activity. This includes identifying and removing manifestly unlawful content once we become aware of it, notifying relevant authorities where required, and preserving data upon lawful request for the purposes of investigation, prosecution, or enforcement.
- We process personal data as necessary to comply with applicable legal and regulatory requirements. This includes handling and documenting your requests to exercise your data protection rights, such as access, rectification, or erasure.
We rely on the relevant legal obligation to which we are subject as a legal basis for processing your personal data under this Section 4.5.
Also note that, if necessary, we will use personal information to exercise or defend our legal rights in court, relying on our legitimate interest(s).
4.6. To manage life-threatening emergency situations for anyone using our services.
- Protection of individuals and reporting to authorities: We may process personal data to assess, handle and report situations involving serious safety risks, such as threats to life, self-harm, or violence, to the competent authorities.
We rely on the protection of the vital interests of any natural person as a legal basis for processing personal data under this Section 4.6.
5. HOW LONG DO WE KEEP YOUR DATA
5.1. Account Validity Period
We keep your personal information as long as we need it to enable you to use our services.
You can delete your account at any time in the Yubo settings by clicking on ‘Delete my account’. When you delete your account, you will no longer be able to use our services, and your profile will no longer be accessible or visible to other users.
Please note that we will delete your account if you are inactive on Yubo for two years, meaning that you do not access the app for a continuous period of two years.
5.2. Specific Data Retention Periods
Not all the data we process have the same retention period, in particular regarding the following types of data:
- Direct messages are deleted after two years and photos sent in the chat are deleted after one year.
- Videos and images from live videos are deleted quickly (within minutes to hours). Only screenshots of the live videos may be kept longer if the live videos are reported or if violations of our Community Guidelines are detected.
- We will retain content that is in violation of our Community Guidelines for a certain period of time, even if that content has been removed from the Yubo platform. The retention period may vary depending on the type of content and the type of violation.
- Your interactions with our support team can be kept for up to 5 years after the ticket is closed. It helps us follow up on our actions regarding support and defend ourselves in the event of a claim or legal action. Attachments to tickets are deleted after 15 days.
- Your precise location data (i.e. GPS data), if enabled, is kept until your next access to Yubo; then it is replaced by your current geolocation and cannot be kept for more than 2 months.
- Age estimation data: Facial geometry data is removed immediately after the estimation is done. We retain your selfie for as long as your account remains active, strictly for safety purposes, for instance, to verify the authenticity of your profile in case of a safety concern.
- Verification data: ID documents to verify an account are deleted shortly after verification (within a few days). Facial geometry scans are immediately deleted after the process. We only store your real-time selfie image as long as your profile remains active on Yubo to maintain your verification.
Notwithstanding the provisions of Sections 5.1 and 5.2. above, we will retain some personal data for an additional period of time if we are legally required to do so. We may also need to keep personal information for the time necessary to resolve a dispute or to exercise or defend our legal rights.
7. INTERNATIONAL DATA TRANSFER
Twelve-App is a French company with affiliates, contractors, and service providers located in several countries around the world. For that reason, Twelve-App needs to transfer (via communication, access, storage…) your personal data in other jurisdictions than the one to which you belong, including in countries with different privacy laws and which may not be recognized as "adequate" by the European Commission, especially the United States of America.
Therefore, we implement appropriate safeguards (such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses, where EU data protection laws apply) to ensure that all cross-border transfers comply with applicable rules. To obtain a copy of these Standard Contractual Clauses, you can contact our privacy team at the following address: [email protected].
8. DATA SECURITY
Twelve-App has taken steps to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of your personal data. These measures may vary based on the sensitivity of your data. We are doing our best efforts to maintain security measures appropriate to the level of risk.
While we make every effort to help ensure the integrity and security of our network and systems, we cannot guarantee that our security measures will be effective in all circumstances. That is why it is also your responsibility to keep your data confidential and to immediately notify us in case of a breach of confidentiality of your account data.
9. YOUR PRIVACY RIGHTS
Twelve-App is committed to providing you with rights regarding your personal data, in accordance with applicable laws.
The conditions for exercising these rights may differ according to the applicable laws and regulations. These rights may be limited as provided by applicable laws and regulations, the rights and freedoms of other people, our confidentiality obligations, trade secrets, and/or the protection of intellectual property rights. Where relevant, you will be informed of the reasons why Twelve-App could not fulfill all or part of your request.
Here are your privacy rights:
- You have a right to access your personal data and a right to data portability, in which case you may receive a copy of such data in a commonly used format. The easiest way to obtain the requested information is to exercise your right of access directly in the Yubo account settings > Safety and privacy > Personalization and data > Get my data.
- You have a right to obtain rectification of your personal data should it be inaccurate, incomplete, or obsolete. You can update most of your data directly in your Yubo account.
- You have a right to erasure (or “right to be forgotten”) of your personal data. You can also request to delete your account in the Yubo settings > Delete my account.
- You have a right to withdraw your consent if we rely on your consent to process your data. In most cases, you can withdraw your consent in the app settings ‘Personalization and data’ and/or in your device settings. This setting may not be available to you depending on your jurisdiction.
- You have a right to object to the processing of your personal data if you have a reason due to your particular situation.
- You have a right to restriction of the data processing in some cases, such as if you contest the accuracy of your data, if the processing is unlawful, or if we no longer need your personal data but you need them for the establishment, exercise or defense of legal claims.
- You have the right to issue instructions regarding the retention, deletion, and disclosure of your personal data after your death.
Read the U.S. Privacy Notice for more information about your privacy rights in the United States.
Please note that exercising one of these rights (e.g. by refusing the processing of all or part of your personal data) may impair your experience on Yubo.
If you cannot exercise your rights directly in the app, you can contact our privacy team by submitting a request here, selecting My Data and Privacy. We will respond to you as soon as possible.
You also have the right to file a complaint before a competent data protection authority regarding the processing of your personal data. While we suggest that you contact Twelve-App beforehand to fix the issue, you may directly contact the competent data protection authority. You can find more information about your data protection authority if you live in the European Union here, or in the UK here.
10. CHILDREN’s PRIVACY AND AGE GATES
Protecting children’s privacy is important to us. We do not direct Yubo to, nor do we knowingly collect any personal information from, children under the age of sixteen.
We do not allow you to create an account and use Yubo if you are under 16 years old, and we monitor compliance with this restriction by relying on age assurance measures such as facial age estimation. We may also, if there is reasonable doubt, ask you to verify your identity.
If we learn that a child under the age of 16 has provided us with personal information, we will use reasonable efforts to remove the individual’s personal information from our records.
Depending on applicable laws in the country where you reside, we may require parental consent before you can use Yubo.
11. CANDIDATE PRIVACY
As an employer, Twelve-App processes the personal data of candidates who apply for a job in our company, whether on the website www.yubo.live, by mail or email, or via a job platform where we publish job offers.
This usually includes the processing of data relating to the candidate’s professional background, education, references, qualifications, remuneration, and the analysis of documents such as a CV and cover letter provided by the candidate.
This information will be processed for the purpose of talent acquisition, reviewing applications, arranging interviews and tests, communicating with the candidate about his or her application, and managing the recruitment process. The data will be kept for up to 2 years after the last contact with the candidate, or sooner if requested by the latter. This retention period allows the candidate to stay informed of opportunities that might interest him or her.
We rely on Twelve-App’s legitimate interests as a legal basis for processing your personal data under this Section 11.
12. CONTACT
Should you have any questions concerning the application, interpretation, or enforcement of this Privacy Policy or requests concerning your personal data, you can contact us:
- By completing the online contact form on the Yubo website (selecting My Data and Privacy) or directly via the application;
- Send sending an email to [email protected] ;
- By writing to us at the following postal address: TWELVE-APP – Privacy, 59 rue de Ponthieu, bureau 562, 75008 Paris, France.
13. UPDATES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We will update this Privacy Policy from time to time to take into account any technical, economic, regulatory, or legal evolution, or if we change our practices regarding the processing of personal data.
We will notify you in advance, by any appropriate means, of significant changes to this Privacy policy. Usually, this will be done through an in-app notification. Following advanced notification, your continued use of any website or app operated by Twelve-App or under the Yubo brand, and/or when you use any product or service provided by Twelve-App, means you accept these changes.
